He is of the view that the impression being created as if the Commissioner’s life is at risk was not necessary.

He was reacting to the strict security measures that were put in front of the offices of Multimedia on Saturday morning when Madam Osei appeared on Joy FM’s news analysis and current affairs programme- Newsfile ostensibly to discuss the Commission’s stand on the new voters’ register.

Scores of armed policemen were positioned in front of the media house throughout the duration of the interview which was also aired live on Television and online. Staff of the station had to endure vigorous screening before they could access their own offices.

The Electoral Commission has refused to pay heed to the NPP’s request for a new voters’ register saying the party could not put out a sound argument to convince the Commission.

She said “A new voter’s ID will worsen fears expressed by political parties that there are minors and foreigners on the electoral roll because everybody will rush to obtain one even if they are not eligible to vote”.

In a post on his facebook wall to react to the security issue around Madam Charlotte Osei, Mr Okudzeto said if the EC boss requires such strong security presence just for a radio interview “then we have a problem as a nation.

“What is this woman afraid of? And who in the security apparatus is giving this woman such protection and for what purpose? To the extent that even staff of the radio station are screened before they enter their office? I am sorry for Ghana,” he stated.

If the EC boss requires this level of security presence just for a radio interview, then we have a problem as a nation.
Even her predecessor went in and out of the Supreme Court during the election petition freely without such a charade.

As citizens we must watch this things. We live in a democracy. We speak our minds. We agree to disagree on issues.

What is this woman afraid of? And who in the security apparatus is giving this woman such protection and for what purpose?
To
the extent that even staff of the radio station are screened before they enter their office?
I am sorry for Ghana. We should watch it.

People who are appointed to serve the people must do so deligently. This display of security might sends very worrying signals about election 2016. Are we saying this woman is a target and a security risk because a section of the Ghanaian public is advocating for a more credible voters register? And therefore needs this level of protection? Is she doing something wrong?
Wow. I am at a loss.

Is this spectacle not too high handed and show of force not unnecessary?
This woman is becoming a security risk to this country gradually by her actions. And not at risk as has been displayed this morning. God save our country.
