Jose Mourinho’s side sit top of the group with 10 points, same as the visitors, but none of them is guaranteed a qualification berth as a win by third placed Dynamo Kiev (8 points) over last placed Maccabi Tel Aviv could hamper the progress of either Chelsea or Porto.
Porto won the first leg in Portugal but a draw for Chelsea will be enough for Mourinho to pay back his former club.
The onus will be on Porto to throw the gauntlets at the Blues since their chance of progression to the last 16 rest on a win at the Stamford Bridge but with the Portuguese coach being a good student of the shut up the shop system, the visitors may have to do something extraordinary to see off Chelsea.
A draw from the Chelsea/Porto game will peg Chelsea, Porto, and Dynamo Kiev on 11 points apiece granted a win for the Ukrainian side over Maccabi Tel Aviv. This will put Dynamo on top of the group whiles Chelsea will take up the second spot.
