Niger State suspends GM, others for fraud

Three principal officers of the Niger state Housing Cooperation including the former General Manager have been suspended for mismanagement of funds and flouting the laws of the cooperation. They were accused of diverting to their private use, N48 million meant for payment of a developer who has completed a job awarded by the Corporation.

This was disclosed by the Niger state Head of Service, Alhaji Ahmed Matane while briefing newsmen after the State Executive Council meeting in Minna. He said out of the N48 million kept for the payment of the developer, only N2 million was remaining in the account.

In his words, “Three principal officers including the former General Manager was suspended. It is not a flouting of law. It is about the mismanagement of funds kept in the custody of the cooperation. They should have had superior approval if the money was to be spent.” 

Matane explaining further said the suspension is in line with the transparency and accountability policy of the state government adding that the government is determined to ensure that every single naira used or deposited in the state is accounted for.
