Profligate City fall at Turin

Mario Mandzukic’s 18th minute goal was enough for Juventus to beat Manchester City 1-0 on Wednesday in Champions League Group D match at the Juventus Stadium.

The premiership side gave a fight at Turin but French midfielder Paul Pogba was too marvelous to handle in the middle, distributing an eye-catching unlooking passes.

City created more chances early in the half but could not take the lead in Turin as Brazilian midfielder Fernandinho blasted away a begging chance from 10 yards.

Master of the night, Paul Pogba released Mario Mandzukic with a salivating backheel pass into the box but City was lucky as the Croat was flagged offside.

City could not be second time lucky in the 18th minute when Mario Mandzukic volleyed Alex Sandro’s cross into the net and nearly added a second goal which was well read by City’s goalie Joe Hart.

As Manchester City continued to press high, Juventus on the other hand found spaces behind the City defence and created more chances and it had to take a combination of Gael Clichy and Joe Hart to stop Paulo Dybala’s shot.

Sergio Aguero nearly pulled parity for City on the stroke of half time after capitalizing on Marchisio’s back pass but Juventus goalie Gianluigi Buffon was alert to save the situation.

The veteran goalie came to the rescue of Juventus again in the second half from Fernandinho’s timely header.
Alvaro Morata was denied by the boot of Joe Hart deep in the half. The results means Juventus have leapfrogged to the first spot of the Group D table.
