The Joint Venture Eastern Coprridor Road, contractors working on the eastern corridor road in Northern Region , has organised a Community Awareness cholera walk in Yendi Municipality.
The two hours walk, organised in collaboration with the Municipal Assembly was aimed at creating awareness on cholera, malaria, Ebola, the construction of the eastern corridor road and environmental cleanliness .
The more than 300 participants included of the community walk include the Deputy Regional Minister; Alhaji Alhassan Bashiru Alhassan Fuseini, Municipal Chief Executive; Mr Issah Zakaria, Municipal Coordinating Director, Mr Sarfo Kantanka, Administrator of Joint Venture Eastern Corridor Road; Mr Daniel Sakitey, Municipal Planning Officer; Mr Peter Tetteh, service commanders, and other stakeholders.
The Deputy Regional Minister, who is also the Member of Parliament for Sagnarigu said the road project is would generate employment for more than 2000 people.
He asked the chiefs and people to sustain peace and stability in the area to attract more investors.
The Social Welfare Officer of the Joint Venture Eastern Corridor Road, Mr Ot?vio Moniz de Arag?o Schaitze said in a speech read on his behalf expressed appreciation to those who attended the exercise, adding that cholera is dangerous but could be avoided through precautionary measures.
A speech delivered on behalf of the Regent of Dagbon; Kampakuya Na Yakubu Abdulai Andani pledged the support of chiefs in the area for the project.
He however asked the contractors to do a quality job.
Mr Zakaria said the municipal assembly has joined the crusade on good sanitation in order to eliminate communicable diseases like cholera, malaria and to ensure that the Ebola viral disease does not enter Ghana.
He said the first Saturday of every month has been set aside as good sanitation day.
