Ghana winger Frank Acheampong says Jose Mourinho’s sacking as Chelsea coach bodes well for defender Baba Rahman insisting the departure of the Portuguese manager will give the right-back more playing time to develop.
The Anderlecht player, who is a close friend of Baba Rahman, as they played together in Ghana’s U20 side before their promotion into the senior national team the Black Stars, believes the defender is talented enough to grab a place in the Blues starting team.
The Ghanaian defender, who was a high profile acquisition, has struggled to get into the Chelsea team despite the departure of Mourinho as new coach Gus Hiddink has limited the defender only to the bench
Baba last played for Chelsea a month ago in the 2-2 draw game against Norwich and Acheampong says his compatriot will work hard to impress the new Chelsea coach.
“Baba has the talent and I believe he will succeed under new manager Guus Hidink despite the challenges,” the Belgium-based winger Acheampong said
“Any player who will take his chances at training will catch the eye of the new manager Hiddink.
“I believe Baba will be even more hungrier after the departure of Mourinho to make the new manager’s cut just like the other players.”
Baba will hope to prove himself when he is given the opportunity to start in the game against Scunthorpe United this coming weekend.
The former Augsburg man has made only nine appearances for the current English Champions.
