The Accra Circuit Court Two has declined bail for two individuals accused of burglarizing Lillian Kumah, widow of the late John Kumah, former Deputy Minister of Finance and Member of Parliament for Ejisu.

Adams Sanogo, a trader, and Kwame Dunga, currently at large, allegedly conspired to steal significant sums of money, electronic devices, and other valuables from Reverend Lillian Kumah. The stolen items were US$50,000, GH¢50,000, an iPhone 15 Pro Max, and various other electronics.

Accompanied by Rabiu Falilu, a Senior High School graduate implicated in receiving stolen goods, the accused were apprehended in the Ashanti Region and transferred to Accra Police custody. They have denied the charges and were remanded last Friday to aid further investigations, with a search ongoing for Dunga.

Presiding Judge Isaac Addo dismissed the bail application presented by their counsel, Benjamin Ofori, asserting concerns that granting bail could potentially interfere with the investigation. The accused will appear in court again on August 7, 2024.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Raymond Ackom detailed that Reverend Lillian Kumah reported the theft on December 29, 2023, providing CCTV footage of the incident to authorities. The subsequent investigation led to Falilu’s arrest after he was found in possession of the complainant’s iPhone in Jamasi, Ashanti Region.

Falilu then directed the police to Sanogo in Kumasi, where he was apprehended for reportedly selling the stolen phone to Falilu. During interrogation, Sanogo implicated Dunga as his accomplice, currently evading capture.

While counsel argued for bail on the grounds of fixed abode and cooperation with authorities, the prosecution opposed it, citing flight risk and potential interference with the ongoing investigation.

The court proceedings underscore a significant legal challenge as efforts continue to bring all involved parties to justice in this high-profile case.
